Corcoran’s A-List
September 2022

by INHABIT EDITORS

A monthly showcase of the most spectacular listings across the Corcoran network.

Enjoy our survey of Corcoran’s most incredible listings across the country. Taking center stage this month: Atlantic Ocean views out east and down south, enviable estates in Connecticut and the Hudson Valley, a life-sized Caribbean sandcastle, a vivacious Manhattan townhouse, and a log-forward Tahoe cabin.

New York City

What’s Here: This five-bedroom Hamilton Heights townhouse encapsulates vibrancy, a virtue extending well beyond its yellow-green parlor walls (not to mention the lavender-hued kitchen). Ascend the stoop to be greeted by a quintessential brownstone foyer, with hardwood accents that wander from floor to ceiling and up the stairs. Hand-carved arches, railings, and decorative mantels are all original—from 19th-century architect Henri Fouchaux—and lend the home an eternal sense of vitality. Elsewhere, the kitchen deck, overlooking a blooming garden that adds a touch of country living, makes an ideal venue for morning joe or a nightcap.

What We Love: There’s a separate, one-bedroom apartment on the garden level, boasting a living room, dining room, kitchen, two bathrooms, and backyard access.

East End

What’s Here: An intriguing front entrance—featuring a gracefully asymmetrical walkway set among lush landscaping—sets the stage for this architectural statement in Sagaponack statement house, with sunlight-steep interiors that soar from white oak floors to soaring ceilings. Out back, meal time and pool time go hand-in-hand. Keep one hand on your fork while the other does the backstroke in a 68-foot pool, swim-up distance from a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. That combo is simply one facet of a sprawling backyard that includes multiple covered and uncovered sitting areas, a fire pit, and an outdoor shower.

What We Love: Take to the second level—up a travertine floating staircase—for views that stretch out to the Atlantic Ocean.

Greenwich

What’s Here: A baronial estate on almost five acres in Greenwich’s back country boasts a six-bedroom, seven-bathroom (and one-half-bathroom) 9,000-square-foot house. This spacious residence has plenty of room for family time, working at home, entertaining on a large scale, and anything else life might throw at you. The ground floor has both a formal dining room and a formal living room, each with wood-burning fireplaces, as well as a more informal breakfast room off the kitchen and a family room with window seats. You’ll also find a home office on the first floor, and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom. The second and third floors hosts the other five bedroom suites, as well as several additional flexible spaces that can be configured as you wish, such as a gym or playroom.

What We Love: The grounds include a lovely terrace with a built-in grill, a pool and a spa, and beautiful, vast expanses of lawn.

Hudson Valley

What’s Here: A picturesque estate set on 203 forested acres situated in the Jewett Valley, between Hunter and Windham Mountains. The primary farmhouse is connected with an unexpected gallery walkway to a contemporary addition, creating a total of three bedrooms, and three-and-a-half bathrooms. There are also a number of additional buildings, including two barns with heat, water, and electricity, that can be used however your imagination desires. Outside, there’s a summer kitchen, a pond, and an outdoor fireplace. Much of the land—181 acres of the property, in fact—is part of the Forestry Program, helping to conserve its wildness.

What We Love: The resplendent interiors are a surprising contrast to the rural nature of the property—there’s a gradient of rainbow tile work that covers one bathroom from floor to ceiling and the cannily placed windows and skylights bathe the house in natural light.

South Florida

What’s Here: Mediterranean Revival-style magnificence shoreside of the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach County. Underneath its tiled roof, this estate flaunts ample warmth, maple and mahogany hardwood floors, coffered ceilings, and even a stately elevator. The primary suite is complete with a fireplace, a balcony overlooking the ocean, and the rotunda of resort-like relaxation that is its granite-clad, windowed bath—boasting a jacuzzi tub with additional Atlantic views. Still closer ocean vistas are glimpsed in the backyard, whether you’re dining under the covered loggia, entertaining guests in the garden, or floating in the infinity pool.

What We Love: In addition to a home gym and media room, this four-bed boasts a mahogany library and home office, outfitted with a fireplace, built-in bookcases, and—what else—a front-row seat to oceanfront scenery.

North Carolina

What’s Here: Behind this five-bedroom house’s traditional facade lies a home that’s party-ready! The pool has a waterfall/spa element and is decorated with animal sculptures, which also adorn the surrounding patio and garden. There are plenty of built-ins and unusual touches throughout the house, including a half-sized door to the area under the stairs (shades of Harry Potter, perhaps?), and a kitchenette in the media room to serve up drinks and popcorn for movie night. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas are more sedate in style, but they haven’t been overlooked either, featuring details like glossy stone floors in the wide-open great room.

What We Love: The highlight of the property is an amazing exterior garage that houses more than 24 vintage cars (sadly, cars are not included in the sale). The garage is almost 2,500 square feet, with four 14′-glass doors, as well as RV parking/hook up outside. If your own car collection is lacking, it could be transformed into an indoor gym, home movie theater, or artist’s studio.

Lake tahoe

What’s Here: A gorgeous house on the shores of Lake Tahoe has five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, with two primary lake view suites, each with a spa-style bathroom. The open floor plan living area incorporate tree trunks throughout the kitchen and living room, continuing the log cabin theme indoors. There’s also a separate garage with a game room above and a one-bedroom apartment below. Enjoy the view from the deck, then amble down to your private pier with a boat lift and two permitted buoys.

What We Love: The location on Tahoe’s Carnelian Bay affords unparalleled views from almost every room and in every season.

Bahamas

What’s Here: This Sandcastle won’t crumble when the waves wash ashore—in fact, it’s quite self-sufficient producing its own electricity with solar panels and a wind turbine, as well as storage for 1,200 gallons of water. Located in Great Guana Cay, one of the 365 islands in the Exuma Cays, the castle is close to Staniel Cay and Big Major Cay for swimming with the wild pigs or snorkeling in Thuderball Grotto. The beachfront castle has five bedrooms and three bathrooms, all with the most extraordinary views of the ocean.

What We Love: The castle sale includes a 17′ Triumph boat, a Sunfish sailboat, and two kayaks, in addition to the land and structure.

Puerto Rico

What’s Here: With views of the Condado Lagoon, this Miramar three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom condominium offers all the advantages of apartment living in an expansive 2,800 square feet. Marble floors give the condo a polished flair, and the open-plan chef’s kitchen has an oversized island and stainless-steel appliances. Building amenities include 24/7 concierge services, private security, an outdoor pool, and a fitness center. The building also has hurricane-proof glass windows throughout.

What We Love: The apartment includes a private balcony with a built-in grill and ample seating area, perfect for dinners outside.
