The Want List: Six Ways to Bring the Hotel Experience Home
You still can’t kick back at your favorite five-star, but you can grab a bit of sweet hospitality as you shelter in place.
After months sheltering in place, an ache for adventure is one symptom we all share. As we prepare to start summer at home, where the travel bug bites harder than any backyard mosquito could dream of, we’re left wanderlusting for spa days, hot nights out in the city, and lazy lay-outs on beach cabanas, not to mention being a pampered hotel guest.
But just because our traveling privileges are hampered doesn’t mean one still can’t indulge in at least a little of the sensory overload associated with a stay at somewhere special. Here are a few ways to enjoy the suite life at home — whether you’re asleep or awake — from hotels in New York City, The Hamptons and Florida.
Luscious bath amenities from The Mark
Who wouldn’t be tempted to swipe these bottles from the housekeeping cart? The Mark’s cheekily-labeled La Bottega toiletries, their bottles emblazoned with bawdry doodles of illustrator Jean‐Philippe Delhomme, capture the quintessence of a hotel stay’s little pleasures and the sensory experiences that etch great vacations into our memories.
We know you’d be bringing them home anyway, but for now, order online until your travels take you back to the Upper East Side.

Silky sheets from the St. Regis
Milled by Italian stalwart Frette from 400 thread-count cotton sateen, the hotel’s bespoke bedding plays no small role in facilitating five-star sleep amidst the horn-honking Midtown Manhattan bustle. A darling of luxury hospitality since the 19th century, Frette linens were found everywhere from the Orient Express to the Titanic — which means John Jacob Astor IV, who founded the St. Regis in 1904 to complement his Waldorf-Astoria) personally slumbered on them.

Trendsetting plates from The NoMad
The iconic creations of Jono Pandolfi’s New Jersey ceramics studio have helped define some of New York’s best restaurants, finding few greater fans than the ever-dynamic Daniel Humm and Will Guidara — the masterminds behind NoMad’s food and beverage program (Eleven Madison Park and Made/Nice notwithstanding).
While you can’t score every exact piece for your home chef endeavors, Jono does sell his dinnerware direct to the public to bridge the social distance between you and the hotel’s James Beard Award-winning restaurant.

Chic denim robes from the Wythe Hotel
The Wythe was welcoming guests before staying in Brooklyn was cool, so it’s little surprise the Brooklyn hotel has arguably New York City’s most fashionable bathrobe — made right in the borough by RUDAS. Inspired by “idlewear” style of Budapest bath houses (and similar to those at Williamsburg’s own Bath House), it’s stitched from 6 oz. 100% cotton denim sourced from a 100-year-old mill in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Queue up some LCD Soundsystem and start your morning feeling like King’s County royalty.

Goop-designer bath accessories from Shou Sugi Ban House
A starting hiccup to Hamptons season doesn’t mean you can’t sample the East End’s most coveted new retreat. These minimalist bath vanity pieces by San Francisco ceramicist Tina Frey (not to be confused with Liz Lemon) are a signature at the Water Mill wellness haute spot, which channels a traditional Japanese ryokan in distinct Hamptons vernacular. Just add Southampton Soap Co. bath bars to your new soap dish and complete the simulation.

Colorful Serena & Lily furnishings from The Colony
Has this recent bonding with your great indoors inspired some home redecorating? The Colony has been sitting pretty in pink since 1947, and if you love the style of the Palm Beach institution-turned Instagram dream hotel it’s never been closer in reach. Serena & Lily tapped the bloggers behind Palm Beach Lately to design a special suite at the hotel, inspiring its own collection to “colonize” your home with its vibrant Florida beachside aesthetic..
