Corcoran’s A-List: December 2024

Enjoy our monthly survey of incredible listings across the Corcoran network. Highlights in this edition: A personal Hamptons kingdom, two slices of South Florida paradise, a timelessly stylish Brooklyn condo, a historic townhouse in Alexandria, Virginia, and a modern masterpiece in Cabo.

Manhattan

What’s Here: Carnegie Hill elegance at its absolute finest. Built in 1931 for finance magnate George F. Baker, Jr., this 22-foot- wide, Neo-Federal Style mansion was designed by none other than Delano & Aldrich, the Beaux-Arts maestros behind some of the most consequential society buildings of the early 20th century. A grand curving staircase soars over the marble entrance gallery, capped by a skylight that floods the space with natural light. 9,000+ square feet of interior across five floors include four bedrooms, five full baths, and three powder rooms. The second floor holds the media room, a library/additional bedroom, and a walk-in silver safe that’s original to the home while the regal living room on the third floor has a 12-foot ceiling. Intricate original details and moldings, an elevator that services every floor, and six wood-burning fireplaces are just some of the other highlights you’ll find at this coveted uptown address.

What We Love: The exquisite original interior details, which offer a glimpse into a bygone era of sophistication and grandeur — as seen in the magnificent oval dining room, the palatial living room, and the stunning original staircase.

Brooklyn

What’s Here: Timeless touchstones meet stylish standards inside this Park Slope condo, designed by the acclaimed Heidi Callier in the Workstead-reimagined 1 Prospect Park West. True to the building’s prewar Neoclassical origins, this home sports archways, 11-foot ceilings, and expansive windows. However, expressive wallpapers and complementary paint shades literally and figuratively color the place as one where an individual’s personality can shine. The living and dining rooms brim with appeal — the former boasting a robust custom built-in, the latter wrapped in an understated floral pattern. Wide hallways divide public spaces from private ones, such as a corner primary suite with a custom-built dressing room and a limestone-clad bathroom.

What We Love: The building’s location is simply unbeatable, steps from Prospect Park’s entrance at Grand Army Plaza (a sight in its own right) and acres upon acres of verdant wonder. If you feel like staying in, 1 Prospect Park West boasts resident amenities — including a library, fitness and wellness studios, and a landscaped rooftop with park and Manhattan views.

East End

What’s Here: Make this sprawling Bridgehampton estate your kingdom. Its great room is sun-drenched and centered around a custom fireplace, feeling more like a castle reception hall beneath 30-foot-tall beamed ceilings. The chic kitchen has a marble and hardwood center island and adjoins a 10-seat, windowed breakfast area that’s warmly inviting — and not just because of its marble-surround fireplace. Discover a 16-seat movie theater, custom billiards table, and more on the to-swoon-for finished lower level. Outside, lush tranquility awaits behind stone walls with a massive heated pool and spa, a detached pool house, and ample area to lounge in.

What We Love: Sleeping quarters are abundant, totaling seven across these 11,600 square feet. Two of those seven are primaries. The first floor’s is more of a wing than a suite, encompassing a luxe bedroom and ensuite bath, a separate sitting area, and another of the home’s many fireplaces. On the second floor, the primary is slightly less sprawling — it still has a massive bath and a dressing room — but takes the added perk of a personal roof terrace. Each of the five other bedrooms is blessed with privacy, as none share a common wall.

Hudson Valley

118 Finkle Road

What’s Here: A true marriage of the past and present, this bucolic farm property is centered around a c. 1754 Dutch barn that was dismantled from its original location in upstate New York and moved to Ancramdale in 2008. The barn became the heart of a stylish rural estate, designed by architect Cynthia Filkoff, with the primary house covering 6,340 square feet, with five bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. There’s also a three-bedroom caretaker’s house, a two-car garage with a loft, and equestrian facilities including a five-stall barn, an equipment barn, an outdoor riding ring, and six paddocks. Modern conveniences include geothermal heating and cooling system and an automatic generator.

What We Love: The original barn was transformed into a great room for the main house with soaring 34-foot ceilings, a brick fireplace, and two huge French doors, setting the tone for the entire estate. Though the house is just minutes to Pine Plains, the property is part of the Dutchess Land Conservancy and so its secluded, rural nature is guaranteed in perpetuity.

New Jersey

34 Shore Road, Edgewater

What’s Here: There’s no need to see what’s streaming on TV when you can watch the sun rise and set over New York City and the Hudson River through your very own floor-to-ceiling windows. This contemporary Edgewater co-op has three bedrooms and two bathrooms spread over two floors, an elevator, and a staircase that leads to an amazing rooftop deck with an outdoor kitchen and enough seating for the whole gang to enjoy drinks and dinner al fresco. The home has every modern amenity, including ten zones of radiant heated floors and Lutron lighting with custom controls.

What We Love: Edgewater Colony is an unusual co-op community: Built on solid rock, the colony began its modern incarnation as a campground with a group of summer bungalows that served as residences for the workers building the George Washington Bridge in the 1920s and 1930s. By 1948, the former campground has turned into the Edgewater Colony, with the bungalow-renters-turned-co-op-owners sitting on prime real estate. Today, all residents in the co-op have access to a community gym, clubhouse, and private waterfront park, as well as easy access to the Palisades Interstate Park.

South Florida

What’s Here: Follow the palace-like arched breezeways, and you’ll doubtless find your spot here. This new construction Palm Beach estate was crafted with a delicate touch yet packs some serious heft. It’s nestled on the Intracoastal waterfront and prioritizes calming views of that aquatic body via ample windows and terraces. When you’re not gazing, entertain! The home was ready-made for hosting guests, sporting exquisite courtyards, a vast dining room (bolstered by a visible wine storage room), and heavenly indoor-outdoor flow. A secluded pool area and a grandiose primary suite — complete with a spa-worthy bath — are icing on the cake.

What We Love: Greater South Florida adventures are at your flipper and fingertips, thanks to a private concrete dock behind the home on the Intracoastal Waterway.

What’s Here: Minimalist aesthetics produce maximum majesty at this Sunny Isles Beach three-bedroom. It comes from a stylish heritage — sat inside a building collaboratively designed by late world-renowned architect César Pelli and Enzo Enea, flaunting interiors conceived by Giorgio Armani. Natural warmth fills the home from head to toe thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls. As such, every space across the condo’s over 2,200 square feet feels immensely inviting. Two terrific terraces — one for Atlantic vistas, the other for cityscape sunsets — only enhance the wow factor. You can also catch the ocean waving from the comfort of the primary bedroom.

What We Love: This condo comes beyond fully furnished, with standout artworks from Peruvian sculptor Aldo Chaparro and Mexican painter Amador Montes included in the sale.

Washington, D.C.

209 S. Saint Asaph Street, Alexandria

What’s Here: Step into the embodiment of living history in this 1835 Alexandria town house, with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. A plethora of original features have been maintained and restored, including a grand double parlor divided by Corinthian columns, heart pine floors, ornate moldings that edge the top of 12-foot ceilings, and eight fireplaces with their original mantels. The primary suite boasts one of these original fireplaces, a walk-in closet, and a marble bathtub. The primary suite also includes an enormous dressing room with multiple windows and custom wardrobes, which is connected to the bedroom, but could easily be repurposed as a home office instead.

What We Love: The house includes a patio and garden, with plenty of space for outdoor entertaining and dining. There’s also a small garage, as well as two off-street parking spaces.

Be the hang out house for the whole squad and entertain with ease, whether it’s a small gathering or a huge blowout party, with a grill and pizza oven available in the screened porch area, while inside, there’s a billiards room and a butler’s pantry with a full wet bar. There’s also resort-style amenities nearby, including a Tier 1 golf membership.

What We Love: There’s a small apartment above the garage with a bathroom, kitchenette, living room, and bedroom — perfect for a guest suite or anyone who needs a little extra privacy.

Hawaii

66-1562 KO UKA PL KAMUELA

What’s Here: This new construction modern four-bedroom, three-bathroom is a rare contemporary-styled home in Sandalwood, a low-density neighborhood in Waimea, surrounded by views of mountains, coastline, and the ocean. Unwind in the great room with its vaulted ceiling and a wall of sliding glass doors that opens to the lanai, which is punctuated with ohia wood beams, adding a Hawaiian flair to the exterior. There’s a chef’s kitchen with a large island, as well as a second butler’s kitchen, with a wall oven and a warming oven, a second refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, and plenty of storage.

What We Love: Outside, the grounds include a putting green, an outdoor kitchen, and a double fire pit with built-in seating, the coziest spot in the whole property to watch the sunset on a cool night.

Puerto Rico

#7 Beach Village Martineau Bay Vieques

What’s Here: Luxury and privacy come together in this special villa in Vieques, which sports five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and most enticingly, your very own staircase that leads down to a secluded beach. The villa is a blend of public and private spaces, with four bedroom suites each boasting their own walk-in closet, and a flex space that can be used as a home office or extra bedroom. The living area has unobstructed ocean views, and flows directly into the dining area and kitchen. There’s ample opportunities to entertain here, with an outdoor grilling station and a brick pizza oven, as well as a dedicated wine cellar.

What We Love: There’s a large saltwater pool that has a pool house with two closets and a bathroom, beautifully manicured grounds, and the possibility of purchasing the adjacent lot to expand this property even more.

Mexico

What’s Here: A striking and modern home designed by Studio Huerta, an architectural firm with offices in New York City and Tijuana, offers an unusual vision of light and shadows, with more than 7,500 square feet of interior space and offered fully furnished, with a total of four bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms. Located in Punta Ballena/Esperanza, the house is close to the beach and the Sea of Cortez. Outside, there’s a pool and spa, and an outdoor dining area and sunken seating pit.

What We Love: The house feels like a work of art in itself as the architecture of this house plays masterfully with the views of the sea and sky surrounding the property, with breezeways, meditation and conversation areas, unusual window placements, and staircases that start in shade and open up into the sunlight. Unexpectedly, one of the bathtubs juts out into a living area with floor-to-ceiling windows with the most amazing views.
