5 California Wine Country Retreats

The view is wine at 910 Lytton Springs Road in Healdsburg, located in the historic Dry Creek Valley.
Looking between the vines? Look to these Corcoran Icon listings in Napa and Sonoma counties — all about an hour north of San Francisco.
2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Paris Wine Tasting, better known as the Judgment of Paris — the blind tasting that forever changed the wine world. In a surprise upset, Napa Valley bottles beat their French counterparts in every category, catapulting the region to global fame like never before.
In recent decades, California’s Wine Country has branched out well beyond Silverado Trail, the historic oak-lined highway traditionally regarded as the main line through the vines. Today, across the Napa and Sonoma valleys and all the way up the North Coast to Mendocino, Humboldt, and Lake Counties, you’ll find some 2,000 or so vineyards — the highest concentration anywhere in North America, thanks to the region’s temperate Mediterranean climate. With the Bay Area close by, it’s no wonder Wine Country is a popular destination to uncork and unwind.
Here are several Wine Country retreats currently listed for sale by Corcoran Icon Properties.
The House: Two parcels, one remarkable offering. 10 minutes from downtown Healdsburg, this rolling 20-acre property compromises bountiful fruit orchards (citrus, plum, pear, fig, and apple), an active pollinator garden, and 2019-planted Cabernet vines, all overseen from the 360-acre vantage point of a 2,600-square-foot residence. The house, featuring three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, has a finished basement — a California rarity that’s too practical for cellaring wine and crops. Other buildings on site include an 850-square-foot shop and the original cabin here, perfect for reimagining as a guest house. Did we mention the pond?
The Place: If Napa is the Manhattan of wine country, Healdsburg is Brooklyn. An epicenter of all things tasteful, this historic farming community (pronounced heelds-burg) showcases one of the most charming downtowns anywhere in California, chockablock with boutiques, galleries, gourmet shops, and a farm-to-table dining scene that’s simply beyond compare. Vintners here lean progressive, known to put exciting new spins on Healdsburg’s legendary terroir at the intersection of the Dry Creek, Russian River, and Alexander Valley AVAs. Easy access to Highway 101, and the upcoming arrival of SMART train service, keep the rest of Wine Country — and California — in easy reach.

The House: 2,286 square feet of vintage charm on 14 acres, nestled in the hills about halfway between the Petaluma River and the Pacific Ocean. Though 10–15 minutes in either direction will get you to Dillon Beach or a night out on the town, there’s everything to enjoy right at home. The c.1925 main house has been wonderfully updated, with charming details like paneled walls and barn doors. Downstairs, a one-bedroom ADU, with a private entrance, kitchen, and bath, is perfect for hosting the friends and family awaiting their invitation to your bucolic Wine Country getaway — not to mention the prospect of rental income. Multiple outbuildings, including a party barn, add endless potential.
The Place: Home to some 60,000 residents, Petaluma is the second-most populous city in Sonoma County. Its location on the Petaluma River made it a regional gateway for commerce and industry throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, with canneries, creameries, and other agriculture-adjacent businesses historically lining the waterfront. Today, it retains all the charm of a California city dating back to the Gold Rush: think classic Main Street buildings with big shop windows and exposed brick walls. The downtown alone boasts more than a half-dozen tasting rooms for area wineries, with more to be found heading west into the hills.

The House: Sequestered by fruit trees and 15 rows of Cabernet vines, this charming retreat is sited on 1.14 level acres of Alexander Valley real estate — minutes from downtown Healdsburg and Geyserville. Natural light beams through the three-bedroom, three-bath farmhouse, renovated and expanded for thoughtful modern living. Case in point: An expansive gourmet kitchen, boasting a copper farmhouse sink, six-burner Thermador range, and a glassed-in wine wall to show off your most coveted local vintages. Sliding glass doors and three porch steps reveal the resort-like backyard, with its bountiful garden beds, impressive hydrangeas, and a new outdoor pool. Pairing with the board-and-batten residence is a detached, barn-style garage with an exercise room and conceptual renderings for a possible pool/guest house conversion.
The Place: Head north up 101 from Healdsburg and you’ll hit Geyserville, named for — you guessed it — the geothermal spouts and springs found in the surrounding hills. This rural community, claiming just 861 residents, is the kind of place that’s embraced for what it doesn’t have, and what it does makes it all the more charming: wineries, quaint country inns, and serene views of the Mayacamas Mountains. While it feels far in mind, it’s close in distance, with all the draws of downtown Healdsburg a quick 10-minute (or less) drive away.

The House: Offered for the first time in 60 years, with roots going back more than a century, this true heritage property — a “ghost winery,” in local vernacular — spans 7.85 acres bordering the Napa River, minutes from downtown Calistoga and St. Helena. You’ll enter past an allée of mature trees, revealing a historic concrete water tower and, beyond, the main residence. Like any farm, there’s a handful of accessory structures, including a concrete-walled barn dating to 1922 and a historic ADU, called the “bunkhouse,” moved from Bothe State Park. From its robust equestrian facilities to fertile soil awaiting replanting, the opportunities here feel endless. Other highlights include a potting shed and a sparkling pool looking out towards the fields.
The Place: “Gold! Gold from the American River!” wasn’t the only set of words that landed Sam Brannan in the history books. Captivated by the naturally occuring hot springs of upper Napa Valley, in the shadow of Mount St. Helena, he sought to develop an upscale resort he proclaimed, with a slip of the tongue, could become “the Calistoga of Sarafornia” — an accidental portmanteau of “California” and “Saratoga.” Remarkably preserved, this picturesque community feels like an authentic Old West town with a gourmet layer added on. Aside from the famed Old Faithful Geyser, so named for its punctual 60-foot eruptions on the half hour, Calistoga is home to some of Napa’s best-known wineries, including Sterling Vineyard, with its popular aerial gondola ride, and the Judgment of Paris-winning Chateau Montelena.

The House: Cresting more than six acres at the end of a private lane, this spacious Mediterranean-style home couples a full suite of amenities with absolutely surreal views, stretching all the way from Marin to Mendocino. 3,142 square feet of sun-splashed living space includes three bedrooms and three baths, with a detached three-car garage connected by loggia. The vaulted living room has a wood-burning fireplace, and the private den even has its own entrance. Outside, there’s a pollinator garden, pool, spa, and bocce court — in other words, some of the best things to enjoy with a glass in hand.
The Place: When it comes to Sebastopol, you can’t compare apples to apples. This charming community, tucked between the Sonoma Valley and the redwoods, is the undisputed apple capital of California — it’s particularly famous for the Gravenstein, a 17th-century Danish cultivar long coveted in the culinary world. In a reverse narrative of Napa’s “ghost wineries,” which in the face of Prohibition and phylloxera converted from vineyards to fruit farms, several of Sebastopol’s orchards have transformed into wineries, making it a noteworthy star on the Wine Country map. Aside from a proper Main Street, the lovely downtown boasts 12-acre Barlow Market, a vibrant collective of brewers, bakers, and other gourmet makers.
