Four Bedrooms on Prospect Park
It’s hard to imagine a better address in Brooklyn’s historic Park Slope neighborhood.
Perched above the prestigious corner where Grand Army Plaza meets the 526-acre Prospect Park, the iconic prewar building at 1 Prospect Park West is a sight to behold. Originally built in 1925 by the Knights of Columbus as a members clubhouse, the 10-story Classic Revival-style building underwent a 2020 reimagining by Brooklyn-based AD100 firm Workstead, emerging with 64 luxury residences and an expertly-curated lobby that feels straight out of a Wes Anderson film. Elegant new design details include soaring ceilings, reclaimed heartwood pine floors, simple wall moldings, curved arch details, wide hallways and expansive windows that flood the rooms with bright natural light.
Apartment 6G, recently refashioned by Seattle-based interior designer Heidi Caillier and featured in Architectural Digest, boasts an easygoing blend of historic grandeur and modern luxury that feels timeless and warmly inviting. It offers 2,458 square feet of interior space with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. A private storage room comes included.
From the front door, you step into a welcoming foyer that quietly and cleverly doubles as a mudroom, with a custom upholstered bench (with storage) and overhead wall hooks off to one side and a generous coat closet on the other. Then you step into an entry gallery with an oh-wow powder room that features a hand-painted mural by James Mobley. From here, you can either head down a long hallway to the very private primary bedroom suite or turn right into the formal dining room. It boasts Fromental wallpaper, an in-wall full-size wine refrigerator, and built-in cabinetry for storage and easy service. The adjacent living room features a custom walnut wall unit and a pair of oversized windows with views of Grand Army Plaza.
At the center of the apartment, the new semi-open kitchen features Miele, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, sage-colored cabinetry, and antique brass hardware. Opposite the kitchen and serving as a butler’s pantry of sorts is a wall of cabinets with a handsome marble countertop. It’s just a few steps back into the dining room.
Tucked into the southwest corner of the boutique condo building, the primary suite features a custom dressing room and open views across neighboring rooftops and treetops out to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The surprisingly large limestone-clad ensuite boasts a soaking tub, a double vanity, and a Bianco Dolomite marble walk-in shower. The other three bedrooms feature custom wall and window treatments and built-out closets.
As part of the residential conversion, the landscape architecture firm ODA was brought in to create a stylish green rooftop, with meadows, gardens and terraces, and dreamy views across Brooklyn and over to Manhattan. Other amenities include a grand and fully staffed lobby, a library, a children’s playroom, and fitness and wellness studios with steam and sauna.
